It’s time for another installment of Travel Tip Tuesday! It’s summer weather here in North America, which makes for perfect travel, but what about the rest of the world’s weather? Is it a good time to visit Africa? What about the Philippines? Today, we discuss the best time to travel to each of our major tourist regions and then some.
Best Time to Travel to…
India’s a big country with many different climates. The region near the Himalayas is vastly different from the tropical regions near Goa. In general though, the best time to visit the Indian subcontinent is October to March. You’ll avoid the heavy rains of the monsoon season. Plus, if you visit during March, you may be lucky enough to catch some of the Holi celebrations taking place. If you’re unfamiliar with Holi, check out our blog on the holiday here.
Unfortunately, the Philippines have a typhoon season similar to hurricane season in the American southeast. So, prolonged stays from June to October are not the ideal time to explore the country in depth. If you want an immersive stay (i.e. you want to experience more than Manila), November to April is the time for you. With 7,000 islands in the country, there’s no shortage of places to explore and you don’t want bad weather interfering with that.
Avoid July and August and you’re good to go. (This is the rainy season.) Some places like Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, and northern Peru are ideal year round thanks to their proximity to the equator. Keep in mind, however, that because it’s in the Southern Hemisphere, everything is flipped. Their winter, which occurs during our summer months, causes roads and beaches to close due to inclement weather. So if you plan on visiting southern Chile and Argentina, you’ll definitely want to visit during their summer in December to March.
Like Latin America, Africa is a very big continent. It really depends on what you’re looking to do. In the southern regions or East Africa, the winter dry season from May to October is ideal for a safari. The sparse vegetation makes it easy to spot critters in their natural habitat. If you’ve set your sets on East Africa, the wildebeest migration occurs during this season. If you’re interested in seeing it, makes sure your Jaya agent knows so they can plan your trip accordingly. Looking to head inland to the jungles? Rwanda and Uganda have generally decent weather year round – perfect for viewing those adorable mountain gorillas – but if you want the most sunny days possible, January to February and June to September are your best bet.
